SYSTEM DIAGRAM
The signal(music) starts out from the ODR head unit & changer or a portable Mini-Disc. The signal is then fed, still in original digital form, via fibre optic light signal into my DEQ30.
The DEQ30 is a Digital Equaliser and performs any equalisation adjustments to the signal, while still in the digital domain, and therefore adds no noise to original signal and because the signal is fed via a fibre optic cable as light, it cant pick up noise from cars electrical system along its lengthy journey from front of car to back.
The light then travels via fibre optic cable to an APOGEE DA 1000-20E DAC (Digital to Analogue Converter). The Apogee DAC is a studio quality DAC, and is arguably the finest of its kind. This device is used to covert the digital light signal back into an analogue(electrical) signal for the amplifiers to make louder.
The anolouge signal is fed via RCA cables into an Audio Control MVC that allows me to control the volume via its wired remote control, from the drivers seat. The digital(light) signal is always at full level (max volume setting), and as the Apogee has no volume control, the MVC allows the volume to be adjusted. The CD players volume control is not usuable or active. This is volume adjustment is done just prior to the amplifiers.
The Amplifier takes its part of the audio signal, makes it louder and sends it to the appropriate speaker, where the signal is finally converted back to the music we hear, hopefully extremely accurately.
The Phoenix Gold ZEROpoint ZPA.05 amplifier runs the Dynaudio system 360 front speakers, in stereo, from 50 Hz and up. The amps inbuilt filter only allows the music above the deep bass range(50 Hz) to be made louder. The amplifiers output signal is then fed to a passive (phase correct shallow slope) cross over, that divides the signal after it has been made louder by the amplifier and sends each part of the signal to the appropriate speaker ie: high freq(treble) to tweeter, midrange freq(vocals) to midrange speakers, etc.
The tweeter and mid-tweeter are mounted inside tubes which are then mounted to the kick panels. This allows precise placement and angling for hopefully optimal imaging and staging. The 8"speakers are mounted in front of the front seats in sealed boxes facing the roof but angled slightly towards listeners.
The Phoenix Gold ZEROpoint ZPA.03 is used bridged (2 channels are joined to make 1) mono, driving two Phoenix Gold XMAX 12" Sub Bass drivers, wired in a parallel configuration, with the inbuilt filter set so it only amplifies music below 50-60hz(deep bass). The subwoofers are run in their own custom made sealed box. Each subwoofer has its own sealed chamber (enclosure).
The inside of both the sub box, and the 8 inch speakers, are partialy lined with deflex panels. These panels are designed specifically to absorb the energy waves that are generated inside the box, and to stop them bouncing back at the speaker. The substance they are made from, is as close to being liquid as you can get, while still staying solid (jelly), and is the only substance specifically designed with this goal.
